(ALMOST) Summer in the City
This past Memorial Day weekend was one of the very best that I can remember in a long while. Dr. J finished his first year of dental school with flying colors. The peace and joy that has been reverberating off of all four of us is pretty amazing. Everyone can feel the stress that has been lifted, and having daddy around all of the time has changed all of us. The kids even put on a “show” for J and I, complete with bows and thank you’s and the cutest dances I have ever seen. I’m enjoying every single moment of this four week summer break like its the last.
The weather has been beautiful. On Sunday, we spent the entire day outside. We took the subway to Central Park and played in the sprinklers at the Ancient Playground,. After an hour or so, we wandered around the rest of the park while the kids slept in the new stroller and finally walked home (all 30 blocks- welcome to New York City!).
Life in the city during the summer is almost as different from California as winter in the city. I would say that snow is the most extreme, but I actually think that humidity in 100 degree heat is. And for the record, its far FAR worse. It hasn’t been that hot yet though, and the humidity comes and goes. So far it’s tolerable, especially when we can come home to air conditioning.
When it gets really hot, we don’t head to the outdoor pool like summers in the Bay Area, we go to the local parks that have sprinklers… and it is SO much fun for everyone!
He even looks cute in a Yankees hat
I’m not sure how long we’ll be able to tolerate the heat without high-tailing it to the Pacific shores, but we’re enjoying it so far. I just hope the kids remember these days of our city life as vividly as I know I will.
