This is a quick addendum to my previous post regarding my benefit in May for Cookies for Cancer.

If you are a frequent visitor here, you’ve probably noticed that I don’t have any ads on my site. I tore them all down when I realized that whatever I was getting wasn’t worth the space on my site.

Instead, I’ve put up a large GiveForward badge called Matt B vs Cancer. His blog can be found here.

I grew up with Matt’s sister, Andrea, and remember him very well. He was one of the only blind children in our school, and also one of the kindest.

When Matt was young, he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (cancer in the retina part of the eye). In his life, he has already experienced extreme loss aside from his sight. His father passed away from cancer when he was in middle school, and his baby sister drowned in a swimming pool. The tragedy that this family has endured is absolutely inconceivable.

Matt has been blind since he was two years old, yet he has continued on an otherwise healthy, positive, successful life in music.

He was recently diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma (cancer in the soft muscle cells stemming from his childhood cancer), and is fighting hard. I’d like to help Matt in any way I can and encourage you to read his story and contribute if you can as well.

***

Today, we found out that Jack’s friend and classmate’s little brother was diagnosed with retinoblastoma over spring break. He isn’t quite two years old. This hit a nerve with me, considering Matt and my commitment and connection with Cookies for Cancer.

There are no coincidences.

I would love and appreciate any help, donations of any kind, and even help getting the word out about Momma’s Gone City’s benefit next month (date and venue TBA) for Cookies for Cancer- a fundraiser for pediatric cancer.

Please contact me at Jessica@mommasgonecity.com if you would like to get involved.

Thank you!

I am happy to help bake cookies and work the cookie booth with you. I work with Gaggle of Chicks and will also see if there is anything I can do to help spread the word to NYC moms. I also belong to a few mom message boards so I will see what I can get going there. Please keep us informed when you decide on a date/time- perhaps a CP location near a playground or museum where there is lots of kid foot traffic? Happy to help!

How can I help you? Anything you need, want, I’m here. I want to help, too. Maybe I can do one in Ottawa, too? I usually always support CHEO, that’s our children’s hospital, because of all the care my oldest son received numerous times.

I am so saddened to hear about this child, Jessica. About any c hild battling this awful disease. It literally stuns me, and makes my heart ache like nothing else. Children dying, children in pain… NO. I can’t deal. And although we carry on about our daily business, not one single day goes by that I am not thinking of these children, honest to GOD.

You know? This idea is so brilliant maybe I should start something like this here? I don’t know. Email me, let me know what I can do for you!

I’m in San Diego, what can I do to help?

A while back I put the link to Matt B’s fundraiser up on my FB after finding it here.

Thank you so much for your offers to help. I’ll be looking for cookie donations, monetary donations and donations from brands for a raffle that we’ll hold.

If you want to participate, you are welcome to either hold your own bake sale for Cookies for Cancer, or if you’d rather be hands off, any sort of way that we can get the word out about the foundation and/or my personal benefit would be greatly appreciated!

I have the best friends. Thank you so much!
