Meet Rufus, our Cube Dog

Thank you to Cube Dog for sponsoring this review. For more information about Cube Dog please visit the Facebook page or download it on iTunes.
I’m pretty quick to classify my family as “dog people”. My husband grew up with dogs-and a pot-bellied pig (some kids have it all), and my sister, mom and I also had a couple beloved pooches. These were not just pets, as they normally aren’t. Our dogs were like our sisters, and effectively shaped our childhood with the lessons and love of raising a furbaby.
When we moved to New York City, we knew that one major sacrifice we would have to make for our four year stint was waiting until we were suburbians again to adopt a dog. Our kitten, Charlie, is an absolute joy and we adore her, but there is a huge difference between cats and dogs. I cannot wait to adopt a puppy.
When I was asked to review the new Cube Dog app, I thought it would be a pretty cute way to entertain the kids. Their time playing games on my phone is very special and limited, so it didn’t take them long to get attached to it. I thought it would be a fun way to entertain them for a few minutes a day-and sure enough, this particular app has elicited more laughs and interaction than any other app I have seen or tried for kids.

We created three Cube Dogs-chose their color, nose, eyes, ears, feet, body, and head-named them, and saved them per each child. The dogs do over 40 tricks and giggle, and can be placed anywhere using the camera as a background.

Our “Rufus” even called us… and I may or may not have answered to see what it would do. Ahem.

While our Rufus certainly won’t take the place of a real dog in our apartment, the kids have a blast watching him play fetch, roll over, and giggle when they rub his tummy. As a parent, I particularly appreciate the interactive aspect-as I’m not much of a proponent of plugging in my kids. They love it though, and I’d much rather they do something that gets their wheels turning a bit as opposed to being glued to the television.
The Cube Dog app is free and compatible with the following hardware devices: iPhone® 3GS, iPhone® 4, iPod touch® (3rd generation, except for 8GB model), and iPod touch® (4th generation). All compatible devices must be running iOS 4.0 or higher. We will be looking to support earlier versions of iOS 3.x in the future.
While Cube Dog provided me with the app to review, the opinions I’ve expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint. Cube Dog, Clever Girls Collective and I promote Blog With Integrity.
