My Life’s Excitement on a Fault Line

You might have heard that the East Coast had a little earthquake today.

I haven’t done well with earthquakes ever since the Loma Prieta Quake in 1989, and when we moved to New York City I just sort of assumed I wouldn’t have to worry about them. Even when today’s earthquake hit, I was less concerned about the earth shaking than I was about the old building I was in. At least in California most of the buildings are retrofitted and buttressed in preparation for such an event. Regardless, this was a mellow roller of a quake and nothing seemed to be damaged aside from our nerves.

This afternoon I was sitting in an office nine stories up when the building started to roll back and forth. I was in the middle of the final discussions of a three part interview for a job that is perfect for me, and considered the completely rare occurrence of the earth shaking to be a minor blip in my afternoon.

I’ve been so motivated and excited lately about my position in social media and how drastically it has changed my life for the better in the past two years. The literal shaking of the earth pales in comparison to the life altering decisions we’ve been making as a family the past couple of months: In addition to the impending arrival of third child and first Manhattan baby, I have decided to take my career to an entirely new level within a position that has perfectly married everything about social media that I love so much.

Starting tomorrow, I am officially the new Director of Social Media for RedRover, a program that brings parents together via an integrated app. It is essentially Facebook for parents, in that it allows you to share your photos and favorite places on Facebook and Twitter, while allowing for a little more privacy and personal connections along with event planning with your parent friends.

As the Director of Social Media, I’ll be able to to not only take my love for tips, tricks, and photo sharing with other parents to the next level, but I’ll also have the chance to explore my creativity within new communities around the country. I’m so excited about jumping on board with a company that I not only fully support but also equally love and appreciate the product that they represent.

It seems only appropriate that the earth literally moved during this meeting, as cheesy as it sounds it was very poignant. I can’t wait to share more with you as I start to get my feet wet in my new role as a national community manager for a fantastic new program, and as I learn to truly integrate a career into my role as a stay at home mother.

I’ve also found a perfect new venue for sharing about all things pregnancy related: Starting in September, I will be one of Babble’s newest Being Pregnant bloggers! The third time around is just as crazy new as the first and second, and I finally have an outlet to talk about it all.

Your guide to those exciting nine months
