Every Mother Counts Twitter Party & Giveaway with ErgoBaby

One of the most profound things that I’ve learned since I started this blog is the incredible way that women come together to help each other. I am constantly introduced to women entrepreneurs, authors, writers, leaders, creators and teachers either in person or through the web and each time I am impressed upon by them in some way. We have cultivated communities to facilitate communication and teach each other about parenting, politics, health, religion, education-and in doing so the layers are woven and we are all strengthened.

This is an incredible community to be a part of for so many reasons, but one of my favorite things is when companies, people and ideas come together to help others on a grander scale. One of my favorite collaborations is with ErgoBaby and their Guest Designer Series to benefit Every Mother Counts.

A little while back, My friend and MGC contributor, Wendy, got to meet and chat with Christy Turlington Burns about the launch of ErgoBaby’s design series with Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organization dedicated to worldwide maternal health. Burns, the founder of Every Mother Counts, is and will remain the creative director of the collections, each year with a new celebrity designer. The collaboration will work to end pregnancy-related maternal mortality around the world by donating a portion of the proceeds for every ErgoBaby Designer Series product sold.

I’m honored to be partnering with Every Mother Counts and ErgoBaby to promote their mission and the product by co-hosting a twitter party with them tonight, and by sharing about the Every Mother Counts designer ErgoBaby carrier.

Both my husband and I have been wearing our babies in the ErgoBaby carrier for more than four years and is easily our #1 go-to method of transporting our children around New York City and beyond. The carriers are so comfortable for both child and parent and are also easy to use and store, I truly don’t know what we’d do without them.

This is one of two ErgoBaby carriers in the Every Mother Counts collection, the Umba Solid.

For me, it’s incredibly special and meaningful to be able to show my support for women and mothers around the world while wearing one of my babies. I personally think the pattern is beautiful as well.

This “Umba” pattern was created by Chantal, a businesswoman in Togo, who provides for her family through textile design. Her batik method involves a specially carved wood stamp, hot wax and a white piece of cotton. Ergobaby is proud to work with The Collaborative Group, an organization that brings sustainable employment to women around the globe, to source design from the very regions served by the Every Mother Counts partnership.

I’m clearly not so great at awkwardly posed photos, but I was surprised with how versatile the pattern is with different shades of my own clothing!

Please join us in tonight’s Twitter Party

In honor of February’s focus on heart health, we’ll be talking about healthy hearts and healthy pregnancies during our Twitter party. A healthy heart is key to having a healthy pregnancy and baby. If mom’s cardiovascular system isn’t healthy, her baby isn’t healthy either. There’s a lot women can do to support their heart and health during pregnancy. Cardiovascular disease impacts women at astounding rates and at all ages. In fact, it kills more women than cancer does. While stroke and embolus (which can happen during pregnancy) fall in the category of “heart disease,” hypertension is the number one complication physicians report among their pregnant patients. That might mean only a “little high blood pressure,” but it might also indicate serious complications like preeclampsia. What should women do to support their heart health during pregnancy? Join our Twitter party and find out.
If you’re pregnant, a recent mama or interested in maternal health, please join us Tuesday February 26 at 9pm EST/6pm PST. Let’s talk about maternal health and healthy-heart pregnancies
.

Join me in showing our support for maternal health and awareness. Those who tweet with us also be entered to win prizes from the Every Mother Counts ErgoBaby Designer Collection to be given throughout the hour. Eligible for US residents only.

Please RSVP for a chance to win prizes from our exclusive Designer Series designed by Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns

I get out of the house and do Pilates three times a week.

Dana February 26, 2013 at 11:17 am

I try to eat healthy, get plenty of rest and exercise as much as possible. I walk everywhere and notice such a difference in the way I feel.

Kathleen Fitzsimmons February 26, 2013 at 12:51 pm

I try to exercise regularly and eat healthy so that I can live a long life for my family

Kathleen Fitzsimmons February 26, 2013 at 12:52 pm
Lesley G. February 26, 2013 at 12:59 pm

I get up at 5am to go for a run!

Angie K February 26, 2013 at 1:57 pm

I just sit and read while my kids are playing by themselves for a bit.

Abby B. February 26, 2013 at 2:52 pm

I stay healthy by dragging myself out of bed in the morning to go workout.

Megan C February 26, 2013 at 3:39 pm

I take care of my health by focusing on a mostly plant-based diet and by taking walks with all three kiddos on a regular basis, the youngest in his jogging stroller. Living out in the desert, a decent carrier would be great, though – the jogging stroller, while fantastic, doesn’t always manage those off-road moments well, LOL. Thanks for the chance! megancrose@gmail.com

Caring for myself means caring for my, soon to be family of 4, all in one. So we make it a point, and make it fun, to get outside for at least 2 hours a day. I always tell my Bea (3 years) Sunshine is healthy! (with SPF of course!) If its cold we bundle up and if its hot we include some sort of water activity. <3 Thank you for the chance to win!

Katja February 26, 2013 at 3:46 pm

I eat healthy and my diet is meat free. I love taking long walks with my little one to get some fresh air and stay fit.

Katie Cox February 26, 2013 at 3:50 pm

I have really been making an effort to make time to go to the gym. I feel so much better and happier when I can exercise and have that time to myself.

Vanessa I. February 26, 2013 at 4:46 pm

Getting outside chasing my son in the sun. I take in some vitamins with the sun rays, get my heart pumping while running with my son. To end our day we try and eat light and go out for sushi.

Zmama February 26, 2013 at 4:50 pm

I go to the gym twice a week, have started juicing for the entire family and try to get sleep too!

Vanessa I February 26, 2013 at 4:50 pm
Sara February 26, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Rochel S February 26, 2013 at 4:58 pm

I try to go to sleep early at night!

Britney February 26, 2013 at 5:03 pm

I workout 5 days a week.

Cassandra Eastman February 26, 2013 at 5:37 pm

I take care of myself by eating right, and taking some time for myself in the evening after the kids go to bed and getting plenty of rest!

Miranda Mora February 26, 2013 at 6:06 pm

I’ve started going to the farmers market last week and have been taking the steps since my new years resolution 2011 to learn how to cook (I try a new technique or recipe with at least one meal per week) and have done a gradual phase out of processed or prepackaged foods. My family and I feel a million times better and it makes me unbelievably happy that I’m doing something to protect their health. Its been all very gradual but I can say now that i CAN COOK!

Monica February 26, 2013 at 6:26 pm

I’m working hard on trying to get more sleep! It’s a work in progress.

Julie February 26, 2013 at 6:48 pm

I TRY, try, try to get exercise in most days of the week—it’s the only way I stay sane!

Tara F. February 26, 2013 at 8:41 pm

I try to eat very healthy, go on regular walks, get outside as much as possible with the boys. I also make sure I keep all of my regular visits with my doctors, as well as sleep when my body is telling me I need it. One of things I also try to do because I feel it’s very beneficial to me, as well as for my boys to see, is to take time for myself. I make a point to take time even if it’s just an hour to get a mani/pedi, etc.

Hot Showers and short walks are the best to rejuvinate me. I am looking forward to start walking with my son when he comes! During pregnancy I have also indulged in massages every 3 weeks or so.

I make sure I eat well and sleep as much as I can.

Steffanie Schindler February 27, 2013 at 2:10 am

I try to eat as healthy as I can and avoid processed food and fast food as much as possible.

Anastasia @ eco-babyz February 27, 2013 at 2:37 am

I force myself to get outside with the kids, even in the middle of winter. Like today when I’ve probably lost a couple of pounds when my 15 month old kept saying ‘again’ twenty times to go on the slide, all bundled in snowsuits, with snowbanks all around the playground! That’s about the only exercise I get. Other than that, we eat real food and all meals from scratch, nothing processed, and we support local farmers by buying meat and dairy from them!

audrey February 27, 2013 at 3:04 am

Walk every day. Drink lots of water. Do my yoga when I can and spend lots of loving time with my family!

Ani Watts February 27, 2013 at 3:10 am
Kate February 27, 2013 at 3:11 am

I make sure to get regular exercise to take care of my high BP. We also try to buy lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and rarely eat out since there’s so much salt in the food. Hoping not to be on bedrest with #2!

Jelli February 27, 2013 at 3:12 am

I make sure to exercise daily. I’m now 17 weeks pregnant and have a toddler at home too, so finding time & energy to exercise is a little tough sometimes, but it’s really important to me.

Set aside time to rest and relax. Life is busy and can take over all your time if you let it. Make sure to make family time a priority, but also find time for yourself to keep your sanity.

Kelly February 27, 2013 at 3:16 am

I have been following a vegan lifestyle for almost 2 years. To everyone’s surprise I managed to stay vegan during my pregnancy last year and I truly believe it has changed my life. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of unhealthy vegan options, but I try to stick to an 80/20 rule. 80% healthy vegan and 20% snaking, naughty vegan treats.

Today, I started trying to take the stairs whenever I can.

Having just had a baby a couple days ago, as hard as it is right now to take time for myself, it’s extremely necessary. I’ve been trying to keep up with a semi stable/healthy diet, getting in lots of fruits to maintain some sort of energy. ;) Im also trying to use the people around me so that I can take a shower and nap.
This mommy hood is no joke, but I’m so blessed with the sweetest little girl!

Carol L February 27, 2013 at 1:58 pm

It’s so hard to find healthy foods the more and more I look. With 2 autoimmune disorders, I have to keep my nutrition and fitness on track for myself, my husband, my 3 girls and unborn baby.. (so excited!!!) we do a lot of juicing in our home and rarely eat out.. Water is a MUST!!! My husband is in the Army so being in shape goes hand in hand also. We love getting the kids involved with excercise and food perpetration. I think it’s so important for them to learn how to be healthy at a young age so they can carry it on through adulthood. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!

Lindsey Penn February 27, 2013 at 2:35 pm

I try to teach nutrition to my 2 year old and by doing so live by example. I have a 5 month old breastfeeding and its comforting to know exactly what goes into my body, since it will be going into hers too!

Amy @ Baby Nosh February 27, 2013 at 7:13 pm

I try to carve out some time in my day to just sit back and RELAX. Drink (decaf) coffee, play a game on the computer, just something to where I don’t have to think too much.

I love to be OUTSIDE!! My 6 month old daughter and I go for walks around the farm. She and I especially love to visit with our horses <3 I hope she loves them as much as me when she grows up :)

Meegs February 27, 2013 at 7:13 pm

I started doing yoga. I realized to care for my baby the best I could, I needed to take care of myself too. Yoga does that for my mind, body, and spirit in one go!

Catharine M February 27, 2013 at 7:14 pm

We eat organic, whole foods in our home, trying to avoid GMOs in our food and health and beauty products. We try to keep our home as chemical-free as possible. I feel as though I can be the best mom possible if I’m fueling my body with the best nutrition I can.

Lauren T. February 27, 2013 at 7:14 pm

I try to eat only whole foods and to workout as much as possible. I can’t wait for spring to get here so I can get back on my trail bike :)

Heather McG February 27, 2013 at 7:15 pm

I make sure to eat healthy every chance I can. And when the snow melts I plan on taking my 6 week old for daily walks into town!

Alysha Colliver February 27, 2013 at 7:15 pm

I eat well and include lots of good fats in our diet, also daily walks are my “mommy time” thank you for the giveaway!

Katie February 27, 2013 at 7:15 pm

I’m training for a marathon. Lots of running!

Jill February 27, 2013 at 7:15 pm

One thing I do is I take a trip to Target. Just stepping into that store makes me feel so great! While I’m there I look through the clearance in just about every department to see if there is anything that I “need”. I usually end up spending about $50 more than I intend, but it really feels great.

If I’m feel super down, I usually pick up a snickers bar in the check out because, it’s delicious.

Outside of that, I spend time with my kids and husband. Being around them makes me so happy. They make me laugh and they really show me what unconditional love means.

This week, I plan to attend two jazzercise classes to work off those snicker bars that I’ve eaten because my husband says that walking around Target doesn’t count as exercise.

I’d love to win this ergo. It’s amazing baby carrier and it would be very handy and helpful with my 20 month and 6 month old!

Carmon Klungseth Juneau February 27, 2013 at 7:16 pm

I take me time everyday during nap even if it is 5 minutes.

Leah Brown February 27, 2013 at 7:16 pm
Kris Garvey February 27, 2013 at 7:16 pm

Between working full-time and my almost one year old’s bedtime I don’t get much “me” time since I want to spend all of my time at home with him! But when the weather’s nice we go out for walks together, sometimes with my dog as well.

Michelle Mong February 27, 2013 at 7:17 pm
Stacy A February 27, 2013 at 7:17 pm

I make sure to get the gym with the kids a few times a week, and out with my girlfriends (w/o the kids) for some ME time!!

Stacy February 27, 2013 at 7:18 pm

I’ve started getting out 3 mornings a week for a fitness class… it’s hard but I love it!

Megan Panchuck February 27, 2013 at 7:18 pm

I recently found out I’m pregnant with our second. I’ve been trying to stay healthy by eating better and getting to the gym. Of course I get lost of exercise chasing my 2 year old around!

We love ergobaby carriers! We actually have one in tan and that is where my daughter spent a lot of her time her first year!

Lindsey Duhon February 27, 2013 at 7:19 pm

I love hot yoga. Keeps my body and mind healthy!

Ashleigh February 27, 2013 at 7:20 pm

My weight has been a constant struggle through my life. Since the birth of my son in June 12′ I have lost 65 pounds so far thanks to walks at night and a strict diet. I want him to see our family living a healthy life and trying to put the best possible things in our bodies. We try to do everything organic and all his food is home made, so I know exactly what he is eating.

Bridget Palkow February 27, 2013 at 7:21 pm

I eat healthy and walk my dogs. And i have removed anything with Pthalates and BPA from my house.

Erin S February 27, 2013 at 7:21 pm

To care for my & my family’s well-being & health, I plan well-balanced, whole-foods meals that use organic ingredients (as much as possible) & are prepared traditionally (getting the most out of the nutrients available in each food). I plan in advance for this because organic items are not readily available in our area, so I have begun ordering most of our groceries through a co-op that delivers once-a-month. I also make most of our personal care items & cleaning solutions to avoid unnecessary & harmful toxins. The kids & I also try to get outside regularly, so we all get some needed exercise.

Making yummy fruit and veggie smoothies for me and my kiddos~ go for daily walks w/ baby daughter~ and exercise w/ plenty of playtime, crawling and chasing after my kiddos… some mommy Zumba too!! I shared too!

Amber February 27, 2013 at 7:24 pm

For me taking care of myself is on the back burner most days. I have two very special boys my oldest is Autistic, with ADHD. My youngest is chronically Ill and requires 24 hour cares. But last year I went to a movie all alone that was nice. Most days to take care of my self I consider getting a Shower a miracle. We do eat healthy and my boys love to go for walks. So i guess i really do not take care of myself but i wanted to enter to win the Ergo It is beautiful.

Blythe February 27, 2013 at 7:24 pm

I take care of myself by doing wonderful family walks where we can all get out and enjoy fresh air and get a little exercise at the same time. So refreshing and helps boost my energy!

Lindsey Holloway February 27, 2013 at 7:25 pm

I take a little time for me between my infant and 4yr old. Napping when they nap is a must with a husband who works 16hrs a day! I also try to do various workouts while my 4yr old is in preschool. I try to incorporate the baby during the workouts where I can! Can’t wait for winter to be over so we can get outside .. I also make sure my family and I eat healthy meals!!

Kori Heller February 27, 2013 at 7:26 pm

I try to make healthy food choices, play with my kids and exercise.

BrookLyn Bost February 27, 2013 at 7:27 pm

LB February 27, 2013 at 7:27 pm

I *try* to drink a lot of water!!

Amy E February 27, 2013 at 7:27 pm

I try to make sure we all eat healthier and get outside as much as possible. A fun way to keep accountable to getting out is meeting up with a friend and her kids at a neighborhood park. Since I have so many young ones I try to take a nap or at least relax when they are taking a nap (and my non-napper has a quiet time).

Thanks for the chance to win!

Nicole Morrison February 27, 2013 at 7:29 pm

Rhi February 27, 2013 at 7:34 pm

I schedule time for myself. Sometimes it’s during nap time, sometimes it’s out of the house, but I try to make sure that I get some “me” time each week.

Amy February 27, 2013 at 7:34 pm

I strive to eat when the kids eat and sleep when the kids sleep. Easier said than done!

Angela February 27, 2013 at 7:35 pm

I try to keep my heart healthy by working out several times a week. I’m exhausted from the pregnancy but it makes me feel good.

Kelsey Rose February 27, 2013 at 7:35 pm

I *try* to go to bed early (lifelong insomniac), and if that doesn’t work, I take a nap with my daughter during her first nap of the day. After she goes to bed, I spend time with my husband. We usually watch movies or TV shows, but it’s still “us time.” After our daughter was born, we kinda lost touch with “us”, so now we actively try to ensure we have it. Every weekend we do at least one fun activity as a family.

Yared Kim February 27, 2013 at 7:43 pm

I try to have a nutritious green shake every morning for energy and focus!!

Melissa February 27, 2013 at 7:45 pm

I stay active, which with a little one looks much different than it used to, but just getting outside does wonders not only for my physical health but also my mental health!

Hannah February 27, 2013 at 7:45 pm

I make dr. Oz’s green drink everyday! Juicing is something everyone in the family loves! Even the picky 5 year old!

Kelly H February 27, 2013 at 7:45 pm

I take an exercise class twice a week and try to get out for a girls’ night every once in a while!

Meredith February 27, 2013 at 7:45 pm

Getting outside in nature is the most important thing that I make sure to do for my self. I find that as a stay at home mom, so much of my time is spent inside or in the car. Allowing myself some “green time” brings me into focus and helps me manage tension and stress.

Kate Edwards February 27, 2013 at 7:46 pm

Other than taking an extra long bath if it’s been a hard day, I have changed m diet significantly since baby started eating solids. I realized I was putting fresh, simple foods in front of my baby, while I was eating processed junk. My body deserved those nutrient rich, fresh foods as much as my little one did. I’m proud of my diet now, and I can give our son exactly what were eating.

Ana O February 27, 2013 at 7:47 pm

Between eating ‘real’ unprocessed food and getting out with baby will wearing him, I try to maintain yoga as well. It’s been harder with a newborn.

Jaime Steinfels February 27, 2013 at 7:49 pm

I love taking that occasional bubble bath with a good book and some tea (or a glass of wine). Nothing helps me relax (and that time is much needed in order to take care of myself) more!

Alena February 27, 2013 at 7:52 pm

I am making sure I get a variety of fruits and veggies in my diet to help growing baby girl. I am also hoping to help her taste buds learn to love Brussel sprouts, and all the other veggies kids dislike. It keeps me healthy and helps her too at 22 weeks prego.

Jaime S February 27, 2013 at 7:53 pm
Hailey February 27, 2013 at 7:54 pm

I let myself nap with my little one when I need it!

Blessings!

The most important thing I do to stay healthy and sane is taking time for myself. My husband understands that it is necessary. Every Saturday during nap time I get a pedicure…EVERY WEEK. My husband says if it costs him $30 a week to keep me sane than it’s worth every penny. :)

Camille February 27, 2013 at 8:43 pm

I try to make it to the gym 3 times a week, but even when I can’t make it once I still get a 30 minute walk in on the way to work and coming back home.

I have 4 kids including an 8 month old so I dont get to do too much for myself but I have been trying to eat healthier and doing some workouts at home to feel sane. I would love this carrier for my baby!!

I make sure to get out of the office everyday and go for a walk. It’s not much, but the fresh air and the time to myself is a treat!

Tiffany King-Clarkson February 27, 2013 at 9:57 pm

What helps me care for myself and my health is putting away whatever I am trying to finish at night in order to be sure I get eight hours of sleep. This has given me the best results in my overall health so far!

Anna-Maria February 27, 2013 at 9:57 pm

I take care of myself this pregnancy by keeping up my usual workout routine BUT listening to my body and not giving myself a guilt-trip if I’m just not up to it one day. That way I’ve averaged 5 days a week at kickboxing, spinning, swimming, yoga, running, and just being active.

Claire February 27, 2013 at 10:07 pm

Right now I am 30 weeks pregnant, so I rest while I can to take care of myself!

Diana Cote February 27, 2013 at 10:07 pm

I try to eat as healthy as I can, I also try to get outside daily, go to the park or somewhere in the weekends and don’t let the little things bother me. we also try to do craft stuff often to let our fun side out and to just let go and express our selves.

I’m becoming better at cooking from scratch and following a meal plan, and cutting out sugars.

I recently had my baby. I went walking every morning when I was pregnant before the kids woke up and my husband went to work. I loved that 1/2 hour!

Melody Cason February 27, 2013 at 10:44 pm

Physically, I take care of myself by doing routine maintenance things – showering daily (most of the time), shaving my legs at least once a week, and giving my feet a pedicure every 2 weeks to a month. Mentally, I read the Bible and try to take breaks from the home life by letting my husband watch my baby while I go out for a while. The breaks aren’t very frequent but I like them.

Lyssa Beth February 27, 2013 at 10:45 pm
Charity T February 27, 2013 at 10:45 pm

A few ways I keep my son and I is, probiotics in our morning juice, overdosing on fresh air, and clean organic foods!

Melissa February 27, 2013 at 11:00 pm

I cut out processed foods for lunch. It’s helped out with mood and weight immensely.

Lindsay February 27, 2013 at 11:04 pm

I take care of myself by making sure that I take time for me. As a mom of 2 boys (3 in a couple days…eek!), I think it’s important to not get so wrapped up in being a mom that I forget about myself. So I make sure I take “mommy time outs” to recharge my batteries so I can keep up with my littles!

Miriam Brussee February 27, 2013 at 11:12 pm

I drink my water!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angela D February 27, 2013 at 11:14 pm

Erin Hamilton-Mullin February 28, 2013 at 12:40 am

I stay healthy by keeping a positive outlook in life. To get rid of stress I tap dance, well maybe that’s more for fun. I drink lots of water instead of soda. But most importantly I see my dentist regularly and brush my teeth twice a day and make sure to floss. :)

Christy G February 28, 2013 at 12:41 am

Katie Wilson February 28, 2013 at 2:28 am

I wake up with my baby every morning and bring her into our bed to snuggle with her father while I go to the gym. That hour of alone time at the gym is great for me. And the giggles I hear coming my hubby and baby in the room once I close the door, make me the happiest person on earth.

Stacey R February 28, 2013 at 2:50 am

I take the dog and kids for walks! And try to cut out snacking during the day!

My mother-in-law and I go on “Yoga dates” together while my husband watches the little one. It’s great for me because I have a one year old – and great for her because her youngest is six. I also try and eat healthily and plan our meals in advance (or make freezer meals) so that I don’t wind up eating pizza or cake every night!

Lani February 28, 2013 at 3:50 pm

I take care of myself and my baby, by letting go of my stress. I stress out about every little thing, and my pregnancy gave me a good reason to start letting things go- which has been huge for me.

I made all of our meals from scratch. We buy organic whenever possible and cook as a family. We also drink plenty of water and do not have soda in the house.

Tiffany K March 1, 2013 at 1:46 am

I make sure to get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and keep things silly and lighthearted around our house for sane mental health.

I only buy organic foods/ingredients. I make our own laundry soap, shampoo, toothpaste ect so no icky chemicals are getting in our bodies!

Jennifer Wakefield March 1, 2013 at 6:59 am

Keeping myself healthy – mind, body and soul- is a goal for me this year. I have started running (HA) on the treadmill at the gym. Takin my vitamins strictly, ministering my thyroid more carefully, and getting back to work. I own a small business and while I’m slow, the few jobs I pick up are almost like mini reboots for my mind and soul :)

kate howell March 1, 2013 at 4:10 pm

I drink water all day and do Barre classes.

Christina Ellison March 2, 2013 at 1:36 am

Lauren Stevens March 2, 2013 at 11:52 am
