The Gift of Giving: An Advent Giveaway with Restoration Hardware Baby & Child

Tradition plays a pretty large role in our family. From ceremoniously cutting down our Christmas tree, stringing popcorn and cranberries for garlands on it’s branches, taking turns with surprises on the daily advent calendar to attending our local hometown Christmas Parade, the holiday season is packed with memory making moments. I can remember doing each of these things with my sister growing up, how much excitement and joy each one would bring, especially the magic of waking up to the glow of the tree and the gifts tucked beneath it on Christmas morning. Justin and I were both so fortunate to have these things every year of our lives, and even luckier to be able to do it all over again with our own children, in our own ways.

As a parent, the magic of the holidays is tenfold what it was as a child. Being able to help create some of the most wondrous memories for our own babies is one of my greatest joys. Instilling the notion of gratitude and the importance of giving rather than receiving is my ultimate goal, however, so this year we’ve asked the kids to round up boxes of their older toys to donate to a shelter. We live abundantly, and knowing what they have in store for them this Christmas, it would be a disservice not to impress upon them the meaning of the holiday. They are already making lists of what they want to donate, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

When I think about what I want them to wake up to on Christmas morning, part of the fun for me is choosing their gifts, picking one or two off of their list and then finding a couple on my own. I like to buy things that are well made and whimsical with an heirloom quality; I’d like the gifts to last a long time, long enough to pass down to siblings, cousins and friends once our family has loved each toy thoroughly. Restoration Hardware Baby & Child has completely surprised me in the best way this year with a beautiful, glowing list of options for smaller children. I chose a vintage ride-on plane scoot for Beau, an over sized stuffed kitty for Zoe, a handmade, eco-friendly wool mobile for Evvie and large, faux fur animal hoods and slippers to accompany their flannel holiday pajamas. Jack’s tastes have grown with him the last year, and he’s really focused elsewhere, namely all things sports related.

We found a ton of things on Restoration Hardware Baby & Child’s gift list– I found myself drooling over pretty much everything, but was able to narrow down my favorites. The simple wool advent calendar was a must, along with the simply beautiful personalized necklace for Zoe and Teepee Tent for Beau. His recent fascination for planes inspired the plane riding toy, the plush animal rocker and oversized luxe faux fur bean bag will be a fixture in our living room for many years to come-though I think Theo has officially staked his claim with it. These pieces from the collection are so exquisitely childlike, but seamlessly fall into the aesthetic of our larger living room areas with their timeless style and quality.

Picking out gifts for the kids is a way that I am able to relive my own childhood, partaking in creating these magical moments for them is not something I will ever take for granted. We live abundantly, but I’m proud of the way they’ve taken on the spirit of giving themselves. I can’t wait to wake up with them Christmas morning and experience the wonder of the magic through them. I know they have some beautiful things waiting for them that will be in our family for many, many years.
