Enjoying the Best Parts of Fall

October is a bit of a funny month for us Californians. The seasons have already technically changed from Summer to fall, the Halloween candy has hit the shelves of most stores and the flavors of pumpkin and nutmeg have infiltrated nearly everything we normally like to consume. The temperatures are always the last to shift however, so as much as we long to enjoy the comfort foods and sweater weather, it’s often a few weeks into the season when those long last 100 degree days of Indian Summer have tapered off that allow for us to embrace the gorgeousness of fall.

Time waits for no one as they say, and neither do the pumpkin patches or apple picking seasons. Finally, it seems like the temperatures have dipped low enough to be able to be outdoors comfortably and some days even require sweaters and long sleeves. While my oldest son will likely wear his basketball shorts long into winter, the girls and I are especially embracing the new fashions that come with fall, especially footwear. I’m happily settled into my six month of pregnancy, and mostly nothing is fitting in my regular wardrobe so I’ve focused on having fun with boots and booties especially. It’s not even an option to put something on my slightly swollen feet that aren’t completely comfortable and supportive, so I’ve been living in my Sofft Sharnell boots and Wesley booties. With these options on my feet, I feel like most days I can pull an outfit together and it looks complete but I also feel prepared to take on the day most activities with the kids.

Jack and Zoe are usually really busy with school and sports activities during the week, but I’ve managed to keep Beau home more often than not from pre-kindergarten and Evangeline, of course, is always along for the ride. I’m starting to feel that longing for these last moments with the kids before our lives change again with a new baby, so we’ve really been maximizing our time together. Morning trips to the park, and walks to see the ducks at the pond are a few things we’ve been doing outdoors together often, and it almost always falls around other activities that either require my attendance at the elementary school or work functions. Dressing for this range of events is limited due to my clothing options thinning, but in so many ways has become easier. The Sharnell knee-high boot has laces up the back that adjust and rubber soles that are made of the softest leather padding. They are incredibly comfortable, even after a full day of wearing them and running around after children, plus they look sleek, shiny and classic. I’ve been finding especially that paired with leggings, they are the perfect addition for feeling comfortable but also maintaining style. The Wesley bootie that I have in two colors is another go-to staple in my fall wardrobe. With a bit more of a heel and the side zippers, the versatility of this shoe is vast, but the comfort certainly isn’t ever compromised. I’ve worn these booties with dresses, leggings and most often a slightly cropped pant to level up on the dressiness for dinner out with my husband, but with the padded footbed, structure and support I don’t feel the 2 3/4” heel even when we’re taking Theo to the park and playing fetch.

We’re still in that beautiful changing of seasons transition, and along with the glory that comes with the crisper air and the rainbow of leaves falling from the trees, so many of the fall traditions are embraced by our whole family. My girls and I are particularly enjoying the new set of fashions we get to wear, and I love the versatility that these Sofft boots and booties bring to my otherwise limited maternity options.
