Get Outside: Summer is (just about!) Here

It’s finally starting to get warm enough to slather on the sunscreen and hit the beach, pool, backyard, sprinklers-anything with a water feature outdoors. I personally could not hardly wait for this time of year to come, as it feels like an absolute celebration of life and freedom, childhood and summer. One more week and our kids will on summer vacation, and aside from a couple of trips here and there throughout the next few months, our family will be making the most out of our still-new suburban lifestyle in the glorious Northern part of California.

We made sure to book some activities to keep the kids immersed in a bit of structure for the sake and sanity of all of us, but generally speaking we’ll be home or doing activities that will also involve our fur baby, Theo. He is very much apart of our daily life and not only expects to be involved in all adventures outdoors or otherwise, he very clearly mopes when is isn’t a part of them-and breaking his big fur ball heart just isn’t on my agenda.

Lately, that means a whole lot of beach trips. There are a few off-leash beaches here in the area where we live and those are Theo’s absolute favorite places to visit. It’s so much fun to watch him get brave and put his feet in the water a little, too.

Other times, we’re just at home where we have a teeny little backyard but happens to be big enough to hold a blow-up baby pool. None of the kids are super excited about actually sitting in the pool, but they have a blast playing around it and filling it up (though we are very conscious and careful about the current drought our area is in).

This week’s Petco Instagram Challenge prompt is “Make a Splash”. Clearly, we’re spending ample time doing just this-and it makes for plenty of fun photo opportunities!
